BSC Player Placement Process

New Paragraph

Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is Broomfield Blast Competitive?

The Broomfield Blast Competitive Program is part of Broomfield Soccer Club (BSC) and provides the opportunity for competitive soccer play for advanced players age 9 and up. The teams compete in various Advanced State League divisions in CSA. Game results and league tables are maintained and there is an annual and seasonal promotion / relegation scheme in place to balance the level of competition in each division.

  • What is the age group breakdown?

U11 – U19 age groups will be defined by birth year.

    •  U11: 2012
    •  U12: 2011
    •  U13: 2010
    •  U14: 2009
    •  U15: 2008
    •  U16: 2007
    • U17: 2006
    • U18: 2005
    •  U19: 2004

For example, U12 players are born between 01/01/2011 and 12/31/2011.

  • How many teams will be formed at each age group? And do players get “cut?”

We try to form as many teams as we can, based upon the number of players registered for player placement. Historically, we have had 4-6 teams at each age group. Following tryouts, we form Blast Competitive teams that are named “Prestige,” “Extreme,” “Thunder,” “Force,” “Attack,” and “Surge.”

We play in CSA’s Advanced State Leagues and teams are placed in different leagues based on what is appropriate for the skill level and athleticism of the team as a whole. The Prestige teams are considered the top team in each competitive age group and will be formed with the most advanced players participating in tryouts. The Extreme, Thunder, Force, Attack, and Surge teams are formed in succession.

We make every effort to place all players who come to tryouts on a team. We work within our own program, and use our relationships with other clubs around the area, to make sure players who can’t be accommodated on Blast Competitive teams find places on BSC Recreational teams or on teams of other clubs. For players not selected for a Blast team, BSC’s Recreational Program remains an excellent option. Recreational teams are NOT formed via the tryout process.

Registration for the recreational program runs from May 1st through July 15th via the BSC website. These teams continue with volunteer coaches and have a varying level of skill.

  • Who are the Blast Coaches?

Coaches are selected by the Directors of Coaching, Liam Sinclair for the boys, David Castro for the girls, from a group of qualified individuals who have a strong passion for both the game of soccer and the development of youth soccer players. You can see a list of coaches under the PROGRAMS Tab on the BSC Website. The website will be updated weekly as assignments are completed for Prestige, Extreme, Thunder, Force, Attack, and Surge.

  • What are the expectations of players on Blast Competitive teams?

    Summer

Once teams have been formed, you will have a team meeting to review the annual calendar. At that time, the team may select to play in the Broomfield Fives. We also encourage you to sign up for our summer camps (on an individual, not team, basis). More information about of all our camps can be found on the BSC website, registration is open now.

    Fall

Training: Each competitive team trains three days per week. Fall training officially begins July 30th and will continue through the late October/early November (depending on team schedule). Individual coaches will set up practice times and schedules based upon their teams. League games begin in late August, usually the weekend prior to Labor Day weekend. Each team will play 8-10 home and away games per season. The CSA Advanced League can include teams within Metro Denver, Fort Collins, southern Wyoming, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Vail, and Grand Junction. The last day for league games is in mid-November. Top level teams will play in State Cup or Presidents Cup, which kicks off over Labor Day weekend.

    Winter

During the winter months, each Blast Competitive team will be scheduled for winter training. This training may take place both indoors and outdoors depending on weather and availability. Additional activities that teams and individuals may elect to participate in include indoor futsal leagues and camps, including ones hosted by BSC.

    Spring

The City of Broomfield opens the fields for regular practice on approximately March 1st. At this time, teams will resume their regular practice schedule of 3 training days/week. The times and location may change. Again, each team will play 8-10 home and away games in the CSA Advanced League. Opening weekend will be in early March, usually the second weekend. The final day of games is in mid-May. There is no off weekend for spring break. Top level teams will play in State Cup or Presidents Cup.

  • What tournaments will my daughter/son play in?

Coaches receive recommendations and approval from the BSC Technical Staff based on each individual team. Tournament registration fees are included in your registration fees. The U11-U14 Prestige & Extreme registration fees include 3 tournaments, and the Thunder, Force, Attack, and Surge registration fees include 2 tournaments. The U15-U19 Prestige team registration fees include 3 tournaments, Extreme 2 tournaments, and Thunder, Force, Attack 1 tournament.

Coaches will discuss tournament plans at the team meeting in June so you can plan accordingly. Tournaments are usually a weekend of 3-5 games. All of our teams will participate in the Broomfield Shootout Aug 11-14, 2022, which is one of the included tournaments. Out-of-state tournaments are an option for U12 teams and older, but are not recommended for U11.
