Broomfield Soccer Club

Summer 3v3

We are excited that after a successful debut in 2023, Broomfield Soccer Club's Summer 3v3 will be returning in 2024!  3v3 is the most exciting, fastest pace game which still works with the fundamental tactical and technical requirements in the game of soccer.  This is a great opportunity for players to work on their own skills in a fun, exciting environment with their friends and teammates, with minimal coaching.  Teams may have 3 to 6 players each game day, and may change week to week to offer the most roster flexibility possible.  Games are player directed, meaning no referees, and minimal to no coaching (see rules below).  The goal is to let the players relax, have fun and learn to solve their own problems. The atmosphere is pure fun, it’s the best time you can have playing soccer over the summer!

Broomfield 3v3 League Rules

Game Duration

League games will consist of 2 12 minute halves, with a maximum 2 minute half time.

Time will be kept by the official time keeper, and the horn will sound to begin and end each half. One blast from the horn is the indicator. Time will run even if teams are not on the field and playing, no delays.

All teams will play two games in one day, with one game length break between games. Plan to be at the fields for 1 and ½ hours on game day (plus any early warmup time that you may need).

Field Dimensions and Layout

The field is approximately 30 yards long by 20 yards wide. A goal box will be painted 10 feet wide by six feet deep in front of each goal, in which no player is allowed to touch the ball. The line is considered a part of the goal box. If a ball comes to rest inside of the goal box or on the goal box line a goal kick is awarded, regardless of which team touched the ball last. Goals are 4ft. tall by 6ft. wide.

Goal Scoring

A goal may only be scored from the scoring team’s offensive half of the field. If a ball is kicked from the defensive half of the field and crosses the goal line, a goal kick is awarded. A goal may not be scored if it is last touched inside the goal box by the offensive team, but if it is touched inside the goal box by the defensive team, a goal IS awarded.

Goalkeepers

No goalkeeping is allowed in the Broomfield 3v3 League. Goalkeepers are allowed to play in the field.

Substitution Procedure

Substitutions are allowed during any dead ball situation. Substitutions on the fly are not allowed.

Kick Off

The ball can be played in any direction. The kick off is an indirect kick so a goal may not be scored directly.

The Kick-In

A kick-in is a method of restarting play (in place of throw-in). The ball will be considered in play once it has been touched by the kicking team. This is an indirect kick.

The Corner Kick

A corner kick is a method of restarting play. A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick, but only against the opposing team.

Fouls and Free Kicks

Players are to call their own fouls during the run of play. In the case of a foul resulting in a free kick, the free kick is an indirect kick.

Goal Kicks

A goal kick is awarded any time the ball goes over the end line last touched by the team defending the opposite goal. Goal kicks may be taken from any point on the end line. All goal kicks are indirect kicks.

Kick Spacing

The players of the defending team are required to be at least 5 yards from the place where the kick-in is taken.

Kick Timing

All kicks must be taken within five seconds of the ball being placed to play. Because there are no referees present players will be able to call violations of this rule. However, the spirit of the rule is what’s important, as there shouldn’t be any extended delays in resuming play for any reason.

Slide Tackling

Players are not allowed to slide and make contact with another player. If done, a free kick is awarded to the opposing team. Player may slide to control the ball, so long as contact with another play is not made.

Off-side

There is no off-side rule in the Broomfield 3v3 league.

Deliberate Handling/Penalty Kick

If the ball is deliberately handled by a defending player to prevent a goal being scored, a penalty kick will be awarded. The penalty kick is taken directly from the half line to the goal, with all players from both teams stood at or behind the half line. The player taking the kick must take it from the half line, no dribbling is allowed. If a ball is handled accidentally, an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team from the spot of the handling.

Rosters

Game day rosters may consist of 3 to 6 players, and can change from week to week. Players are eligible to play if they are currently registered players with Broomfield Soccer Club, OR if they are registered with another soccer club and have a player pass. Unregistered players are not allowed to play until they become registered, which requires an additional $20 fee. Players may play up (on a team older than their birth year) but are not allowed to play down (on a team younger than their birth year).

Uniforms

Teams may choose to create their own uniforms or may wear their regular game uniforms for the Broomfield 3v3 league. In the event that uniform colors are hard to distinguish, the visiting team (listed second in order on the schedule) will be asked to wear pinnies to make play easier. Pinnies will be available in the center of the fields to borrow.

Ball Size

U9-U12 will use size 4 balls, while U13 and older will use size 5 balls. If balls are not provided by the league, the home team should be prepared to provide three game balls for use each game.

Coaching

Coaches are allowed to be present on the sidelines primarily to help with substitutions and facilitate the game. They are allowed to make coaching points to players on the sideline only. Coaches are NOT allowed to coach the players currently on the field, one of the goals of the 3v3 summer league is to allow players to experiment, make mistakes, and learn on their own.

Sportsmanship

Players, coaches and spectators are expected to hold themselves to an extremely high standard. Positive cheering only is allowed from the sidelines, and no parent coaching will be tolerated. This is for the players to enjoy and learn from. Staff reserves the right to ask any player, coach and/or spectator to leave the area for the duration of the game day or longer. Repeated violations will be referred to a disciplinary committee.

Score Keeping

The spirit of the Broomfield 3v3 League is one of fun and learning. Scores and league standing will not be kept. However, if a game gets to the point where one team leads by 6 goals, the teams that is down may add a fourth player. If the lead gets below 6 goals after the addition of the extra player, the extra player must leave the field.

Weather

Staff will monitor weather for any delays and/or cancellations that may become necessary. This will be communicated in two ways. First, if at the fields, the air horn will sound three blasts. This means you should take shelter in cars (the pavilion is NOT lighting safe) immediately. Do not leave the fields however until further instructions are given. Second, updates will be provided via the Broomfield Soccer Club Facebook page. This applies to any weather cancellations that occur prior to arrival at the fields, and instructions for resumption of play if a weather delay occurs.

Staff reserves the right to modify rules and all decisions are final.
